How Author-Approved Works
A helpful guide to getting the most out of your writing room.
The 7-Stage Pipeline
Writing a manual can feel overwhelming. We break it down into seven clear steps. You cannot unlock a stage until you have marked the previous one as done. This keeps you focused on the task right in front of you.
- Brief: The AI acts as a structural editor to define your audience and outcomes.
- Outline: Generates your chapter titles based on the Brief.
- Research: Gathers key facts and common mistakes for each chapter.
- Draft: Writes the raw prose for each chapter.
- Humanize: Applies your unique Voice Profile to make the draft sound like you.
- Format: Polishes the structure and headings.
- Export: Compiles your manuscript into a PDF.
Why We Do It This Way
You might wonder why we don't just ask the AI to "write a 10-chapter book" all at once. If you've tried that with ChatGPT, you know the result: it forgets the plot, hallucinates facts, and changes its tone halfway through.
By breaking it into Research → Draft → Humanize, we force the AI to slow down and think.
Research
Gathers all the facts, definitions, and common mistakes *before* writing. This stops the AI from making things up.
Draft
Takes those vetted research notes and structures them into readable, step-by-step prose. It focuses purely on clarity.
Humanize
Now we inject your Voice Profile. This removes the "robotic AI" tone and makes it sound like a human wrote it.
AI vs. Your Version (The Editing Process)
Every time the AI generates text, it appears in the left column ("AI Output"). This column is read-only.
To make it yours, click "Copy AI Draft" at the bottom of the right column. This copies the text into "Your Version", where you can edit it freely like a standard word processor. You can also toggle the switch at the top right to choose which version you want to save as the "Current version."
The Compare Tool
Not sure what changes the AI made, or want to see your edits side-by-side with the original? Click the "Compare" button in the top right of the editor.
Working with Chapters
The Research, Draft, and Humanize stages happen chapter by chapter. Use the dropdown menu to select a chapter, then click "Generate Chapter X".
You can generate as many or as few chapters as you like. When you are completely finished generating all the chapters for that stage, click "Mark stage done" to unlock the next step.
Privacy & Data
Your writing belongs to you. Author-Approved uses Supabase to securely save your drafts, edits, and voice profiles to your private account.
The AI only sees the text you explicitly send to it when you click a "Generate" button. We never train AI models on your personal manuscripts.
